In honour of the twelve races that Drum Star won including the Grade one Champion Stakes and Grade one Horse Chestnut Stakes, the powers that be named a race after him. So it was a sentimental victory to win this race with The Elmo Effect, because Drum Star served our stable so well back in the late nineties, he was such a courageous horse! This win by the Elmo Effect was superb and opens up a lot more avenues for him going forward. It was a good ride by Jockey JP Van der Merwe, he had The Elmo Effect well placed and produced his run at the right time to win this competitive Listed race at Turffontein on 18 March 2017 over 1800m. Congratulations to owners Pravin Chetty and Hylton Odendaal, as well as champion breeders Summerhill Stud.
